The Grace Rowley papers are part of the China Missionaries Collection, which originated with Claremont Graduate School's Oral History Program in 1969. Miss Rowley was among several of the 44 missionaries interviewed under the program who donated their papers to Honnold Library of The Claremont Colleges. Her papers contain correspondence, diaries, writings, photographs, reports, article clippings, and booklets, most of them relating to her service as a missionary in China and her service at Ming Quong Home in Los Gatos, California.

Grace Rowley was born on May 1, 1887 in Valparaiso, Indiana, but spent the majority of her childhood in Southern California. She received her B.A. from Occidental College, Los Angeles, in 1910, majoring in English and Latin. In 1909, while attending a Y.W.C.A. students' conference she decided to become a missionary. In 1910 she was appointed by the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church to the West Shantung Mission in Weihsien, China. Miss Rowley resided in Weihsien until the Japan...
